Dress Code
Remember we are in a Muslim
country and it is more respectful – and indeed you receive more respect
– if you cover up a little.
This does vary from place to
place and what may be acceptable in the big cities and at the beach, would be more shocking in a small village area. In the more rural areas,
especially if invited to the Berber homes, covering of the arms and legs
is better.

For men going bare-chested is
not advisable; short sleeved tops are often better than sleeveless, but
in certain areas, covering the arms is best.
Shorts are acceptable for both men and women and those of the Bermuda
type are best.
Too much tight skimpy clothing can be uncomfortable in the heat and
provokes unwanted stares!
Prepare for comfort with
keeping cool in mind in the hot summer months. Light tops are often
better. In the winter months, it is advisable to bring more clothing and
bear in mind that layers help trap air and thus retain heat. Certainly a
woolly jumpers or fleeces are to be recommended.
A hat or turban – which you can
buy here – are good to protect the head.
The nights can be cooler depending on the time of year and the area of
Morocco you are in, it is also advisable to bring some warmer items –
such as a good fleece or jacket for the evenings.
Good shoes and sandals are a
must, and if you are trekking, do bring suitable footwear. |
